Two Big Things I Don't Like About Religious Christian People

1) You have changed the Bible to fit your narrative.    One of the things that annoys me about your religious chaos is that you cherry-pick or entirely edit the Bible to justify your life. Before I rant, let me flip the table and pick out a verse for you: "You shall not add to the Word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the Commandments of the LORD your God which I command you." Deuteronomy 4:2 NASB   Now, for context, this is Moses speaking to the children of Israel. Since you seem to enjoy pulling some things out of context, I figured I would bring this up. As much as I love you and somewhat understand your desire to feel special, it is ridiculous to do this by changing the Bible to fit your desire. Whether that would be taking out phrases and words (looking at you, Jehovah's Witnesses) or adding new things to the Bible or the narrative of the Bible (keeping my eye on you, Church of Latter-Day Saints). This also includes those in churche...

Lessons from the Flowerbed [Part 2]

Image
At the beginning of my summer vacation in May, I made a promise to my mother: On June 1st, you will see me in the front flower bed. She laughed, but she knew I was going to keep to my word.   On June 1st, I stared down the flower bed of mostly irises and a few other flowers that were equally littered with wild garlic, bindweed, and other general weeds my mother wanted out. I would have also enjoyed taking the irises out, but she insisted that I keep them in the bed and as intact as I could. I worked for hours in the late spring sun, ruffling dirt and sending weeds to their doom! I could tell the flowerbed needed the work; the soil was full of dirt and mulch -not to mention some trash, worms, and other wonderful insects- that needed to be turned and decluttered of the weeds. Sometimes I needed a pitchfork or a handheld shovel to get the weeds; I was that determined to get what I could.   For the next three days, I worked on small sections of the bed and balanced the work...

Book Review #4

Book Review Cooking For Geeks: Real Science, Great Hacks, and Good Food  Written by Jeff Potter     I had this book on my "To Read" list for a long time. Ever since it was mentioned by Ben Ebbrell on Sorted Food, in fact. I figured if it was something he enjoyed reading, I would as well.    After reading through its seven lengthy chapters, I can say that I am more neutral toward it than he was. As much as I appreciated the information and the pace of its delivery, there was also a lot of additional conversation from Mr. Potter that I felt was more padding than practical information. I also felt a lot of the extra information outside of the basic idea carried a lot of terminology or technobabble that was a bit beyond what I could comprehend on my reading. Perhaps this is because I am not the primary audience for this book, which I can completely understand. This audience was a bit more apparent to me when I saw the breaks in the text in the form of visuals such a...
