Book Review #16

To Dance the Beginning of the World By Dr. Steven Hayward    With this book, I was not liking it at first.    Short story collections always seemed a bit chaotic to me, with very little to really enjoy. Dr. Hayward, however, has now proven me wrong. Twelve stories that feel like they are from the same character even though they aren't proved me wrong.    You can definitely tell Dr. Hayward really took the time to select the stories he would use for this collection. Each story is wonderful on its own, but having all twelve in a collection really drives home the title of the novel. If you have never heard that phrase before, I would suggest you do a little googling and see what you find. Or just read the collection. You can get a bit more of an understanding that way.    I will admit, my favorite stories are "Aunt Daisy's Secret Sauce for Hamburgers," "The Obituary of Philomena Beviso," and "To Dance the Beginning of the World." Without really spoil...

The Strider

It takes a lot to get me out of bed in the morning. Usually the first two things are my cat and a cup of coffee.    The last week, it's been the exact opposites of those pleasant things. Monday was an angel. Not what you think of angels, no matter who told you what they look like. They don't look nice, or creepy. Half the time, they don't look like anything. I can only get the feeling they are standing two inches from my face, sometimes halfway into my body. This Monday angel decided it really needed my body to preach to some homeless guy about 20 feet from my house. I decided against it, it screamed at me, I threw infernal flames at it, it went away. Kinda normal.     Because I did that, Tuesday was a visit from the infernal demon that I borrowed those flames from. It screamed at me for torching the celestial angel. Personally, I can't be bothered with these ones either. They definitely like showing up as shadows on the wall, even though they like ...

Here's To The...

Here's to the next six months. May they be better than the first six.    Or at least better than the last two. I feel like that was the start of my burnout. Maybe more than the last two. Either way, it has been a long burnout. Do I foresee it being done any time soon? Maybe. Depends on what happens the rest of this month. I have a bit to do this month, so I want to see what happens afterwards.    And here's to the next six months just being better in general. After being by myself for the last few weeks, I've realized how crazy online life is for me, let alone offline life. Being around people who just think so wildly about the most mundane things always puzzles me. Mountains out of anthills. Not even molehills! But hey, I can see how people feel the need to make their life more exciting to others, so they make mountains out of their little anthills. Or how big something feels to others when it happens. I realize that a lot of things that hit people hard and kn...
