The Story of the Wild Ones: Five Days

Part 2: Five Days

      YOU HAVE FIVE DAYS

It was a strange message to receive. It came on the President's personal cell phone from an unknown number. A quick chat with other intelligence agencies and we realized all of the major and minor world leaders got the same message. We spent the entire time trying to figure out who sent the message.

Five days later, we found a strange breach in our intelligence database related to our nuclear weapons and codes to access and detonate them. As we scrambled to secure the intel, I was told that an unidentified humanoid appeared suddenly in the Oval Office. No one could detain or kill it as it stood there. After the agents in the room realized their action were futile, the humanoid addressed the President. "Have you made your preparations?"

"Preparations?" The President repeats in confusion.

The humanoid looks disappointed. "Perhaps I have placed too much hope in you." It turns and opens the door with a hand motion. "May you find your fate as a reflection of your actions." It says as it leaves and closes the door behind it. As soon as the door shuts, all communication lines light up. A flurry of calls and messages later and it becomes clear. All we could do was perish.

A final series of blasts. The sound of winds and the heat of a hundred suns. Water rages against land. The fires rage with the winds. Screams and wails are muffled by the final sonic echo sends shockwaves into space and satellites into the emptiness.

Those inside the International Space Station gaze upon a planet now grey and beige. That planet pushes them away. It doesn't want them back.
