The Abandoned Series, Part 4/Finale [Repost]

 4:Truly Abandoned

I fall asleep quickly after a rather long day of running around. UFOG just wanted to show me his cool base, and the others decided today would be the day to ask for food requests. Usually not a problem, but it was still tiring.

I wake to hear the sounds of Amethyst scurrying around my room. "Amethyst, what are you doing?"

"Looking for a Book of History." She answers absent-mindedly.

I sit up. Books of History -at least, in my own created multiverse- had the power to turn what was written into a reality. It is how I am able to be called a Creator and make my own multiverse with its own rules, not to mention travel to connected worlds such as this one. In the end, these books are not meant to be handle lightly or to be used for selfish reasons. That was an issue I fought against years ago, and I wasn't about to fight that battle again.

"What do you want with one?" I ask again, still a hair groggy.

"I think someone wrote in one and might have changed something. I can sense it." She mutters.

I jump out of bed and quickly help her search. "But no one is allowed in here unless they have temporary permission."

She keeps murmuring "I know, I know" as we keep looking. Normally, my books would be in a proper chest, but -seeing as how I'm moving stuff around for a few new buildings- there was stuff everywhere. Perfect timing for something to go missing.

"Found it!" She says, pulling it out of a chest downstairs. I head down to see which one. It was one of the brown leather ones, so there was not much of a problem. If it was a white one, they would have been looking through my universes and messing with stuff. That would have been a bigger problem.

Amethyst flips through it until she comes across foreign handwriting. "Do you know who wrote this?"

I shake my head. "All of the messages I get are magically cleaned up and made to look like computer type. So I have no idea."

"Then how do these books have chicken scratch?" She wonders.

"They look like that until I take a picture of them. Then they look like computer type in the picture." I explain.

She nods and begins to read. "'Then the server became abandoned. Only four or five people were on at the time. This hurt UFOG and Black a lot. Then they asked if they should reset the world.' Wait, reset the world?"

"They are Creators within this world." I nod. "They can put us all to sleep and reset its landscape as much as they would like. But for someone to write that..."

"Why would anyone want the world to reset?" Amethyst inquires.

I shrug. "Boredom, lack of resources, inability to find what he or she wants... There are a list of options."

"Yeah, but... the server is about to be abandoned. Just like the writing says."

I pause and look down at the writing. She is right. These Books of History aren't just for writing in.

"Who would want to do this to someone like UFOG or Black?" She asks.

I shake my head again. "I have no clue. But let's wait this storm out. It may give us a chance to catch up on food stores. Maybe we can build a little kitchen too."

She shrugs and looks off toward the main island where the town center is. "Let's just hope we can find out who wrote in this before it hurts anyone too much."

I look toward the island too. I see a few people playing on the shoreline, hunting squid, and a few others cutting down trees for a project. There had to be at least twelve or thirteen people running around right now, and at least twenty more sleeping. "Let's hope that is the case."

Within days, this world became abandoned. After a while, even UFOG stopped coming over to visit. It seems as if everyone else just ... fell asleep. No one was to be seen around town center, or around UFOG's base, or around any of the normal places where work was going on. I keep to my farming, making sure that I could gather enough food to keep in the chest. I notice that no one is on the communicators, chatting about anything. It's silent. After a while, I start leaving mine in my personal ender chest. For a few days, I am the only person awake and working. Then, after a while, I found myself falling asleep. I was tired. Maybe all of us were.

"We need to figure out what is going on." Amethyst whispers.

Both of us were standing in a new tree farm we made, just to make sure everyone had enough wood for their projects. After I have gathered several stacks, I found myself dozing off. It all became rather quiet and boring.

"Yeah." I yawn. "We definitely need to... at some point."

Amethyst smacks me upside the head, forcing me wide awake with my mind buzzing. I suddenly realize I left my communicator at the house. I ran back to retrieve it. As I brought it back, I noticed it had upgraded itself, now looking more like a pair of glasses than an earpiece. I put them on and logged in, only to be flooded with messages. "When did these upgrade?"

"Just this morning. Now we have a written message board to communicate, and it seems to have more people writing than awake in the world." Amethyst says. I finally see that she has on a monocle -just had to be both a showoff and a smartass- with a similar set up. Mine look like my sunglasses with a readable telepathic interface.

I open it up and scan through the message board. A lot of extra chat about other worlds they were a part of and other nonsense. That's when I noticed a rather long message. "Well, the Books weren't lying." I sigh.

"I see you noticed that." Amethyst sighs in a similar tone. "UFOG has fallen asleep in this world for a long time. Almost a month now."

"Says he is going to be gone for a while." I read on. I grow a bit angry with the messages. "We need to figure out who wrote in that Book."

"Well, then, let's go find out." Amethyst says, grabbing a plain journal. "I'll take notes in passing while you talk to anyone who is awake. Maybe get some handwriting samples while I'm at it."

"Good idea. We need to figure this out."

"Where should we start?" She asks.

"The nether hub. That's where most of the people were working, and it's the quickest way to get to everyone." I conclude.

Amethyst grabs a boat. "I don't think we have a whole lot of time before UFOG gets back. Let's grab him some evidence and let him know about what we find."

"Black too." I add, climbing in. "But you're right. There is not a whole lot of time to play with. Let's get going."

Amethyst rows the boat quickly, sending us toward the town center and it's various portals to the nether hub in the depths below.
