Canlanma Tales, Part 1 [Repost]

I've done Canlanma Street Level, but this is a different set of Canlanma Tales that came from the older blog I had in 2018. Enjoy!

1: A Beginning

She watches over the calm. It is a stranger to her, almost unnervingly so. The stillness coaxes a mirage-like tension over the city below her gaze. Usually a hurried city with blooming markets and lengthy conversation droning over the walls, now reverently silent under the moons above. Her gaze drifts over to a rather odd sight: a queen as she scarfs down a slice of Chocolate Forest cake. "Gen... I didn't think you would eat the cake."

The queen flings her sights toward her new audience. "I- I- I-" She straightens up and does her best to swallow her bite. "I did not want to eat it in front of everyone else. So I waited-" She blinks and smirks. "I thought you had a cake as well, Animus."

Animus laughs and brings her wandering eyes back to the city. "I didn't feel like having any. Though Ayo did make me a nice Red Velvet cake to enjoy."

"Huh. Nice of him to do that." Gen finishes her slice and glances over to a specific building in the city. "Do you feel the energy too?"

"Which ones?" Animus half-jokes. I always feel different energies of people as they go about their day. They don't bother me and I don't bother them.

"There are new energies coming from another world. A different one, but one that feels oddly comfortable to me." Gen gives Animus a glance before looking toward the mist appearing from the building. "That is the new Visitior's Station, right?"

"Yes, it is. Just built a few Cycles ago."

"So it would not be a surprise if someone comes through it with a foreign signature?"

  "Define foreign."

  Gen flatlines her expression.

Animus waves her off with a stray hand. "It's probably nothing."

"It's definitely something." Karan mutters from behind his equipment. He looks up to Animus and wonders how someone who created and semi-governs an entire universe and planet could be so complacent about something as serious as a foreign energy signature entering his hometown. "And if you ask me, it doesn't look like it wants to play nice."

"It doesn't look like it wants to play dirty either," Gen counters as she pulls out another piece of cake from her cloak. "but that's not what I want to know. I want to know if you recognize the origin planet or universe this energy is from."

Before anyone can continue the conversation, a Star Traveler appears and throws a universe of stardust and dark energy on Ani's face. "Kabloom! You just got universed!" CJ cackles.

Animus wears the mixture on her face before wiping it off with a handkerchief. "CJ, Is there any reason for your behavior, or is it just another day for you?"

"I'm just bored and tired of Karan's paranoia. And you needed the distraction." CJ chortles before disappearing into thin air again.

Back to his pocket dimension, as be usual. Fiendish Star Traveler. Animus shakes her head and wonders why she even deals with any of the nonsense that is thrown at her.

Gen rolls her eyes. "You still have not heeded my demand, Karan."

"I'm working as fast as I can, Queen Genieve. I can only work so fast." Karan angrily mutters back. "It's not like things take time, stupid-"

"Watch your tongue, Maddened One." Gen growls.

"Gen. Chill." Animus nudges Gen's shoulder with her arm. "He's working on it."

Karan strewns his equipment across the table again, this time looking over one trinket very carefully. He reaches behind him to pull a bag of clear golf-sized marbles toward the ladies' view. Concentrating, he pulls one from the bag and uses his energy to transfer information from the equipment to the marble. The marble takes on a blue hue followed by spots of green and brown. A moment longer and the planet looks akin to a planet. As it finishes forming with streaks of white clouds, Karan hands the marble to Animus. "That's the planet of origin." Karan studies his result while Animus tosses it between her hands. "I feel like I should know the place."

Animus steals a quick glance up at him before the marble lands in her left hand. "If you knew this place, I would be rather surprised. This is not your planet of origin, nor is it one you should be familiar with in your travels." Flashes of another reality fizzle in her head: livestreams, writing online with friends, the occasional laughter of friendly voices ringing out their usual chorus of entertainment. "Gen, let's go. I know where the energy is from. And I know just the person to contract to take care of this."

Gen and Karan exchange worried looks. "Should we be concerned about the origin of the energy?" She asks.

Animus walks out of Karan's labratory and into the bright light of midday. She shields her eyes for a moment, only for a taller figure to shade her eyes. She looks up and smirks. "Ah, there you are, Hani. I was just going to look for you. I need you to do me a favor."
