Squirrely Thinking

When it comes to projects and things I want to do, my brain gets a little squirrel-like. It tends to like the idea and plans it out a little, but doesn't really commit to it because something else catches its interest. On top of that, any projects I do plan well get buried for later completion during some sort of proverbial creative winter. I find this really annoying; it bothers me a bit to know that my brain actively does this. Like... take this blog, for example. This is the usual conversation with my brain every month:

Me: Okay Brain, we have a lot of unfinished projects that need to get done. What should we do?
Brain: I mean, we can always start a new one. Or destroy an old plan to make a new one.
Me: No, I want to finish what we have.
Brain: Eh... that sounds boring. Let's start something new!

That's honestly it. Before you know it, I have five different projects going at once and none of them are done. I'm guessing that some other people deal with this same situation often. No matter what the projects or the current live situation, people try to do multiple projects in the same amount of time.

So, let me be a tiny bit personal here, as a record of what I want to finish:
  • Two novellas about characters I have lived with my whole life
  • Two crochet projects: A blanket with leftover yarn and a shawl
  • Helping my mom with cleaning and making plastic bag "skeins" for her crochet project
  • A long list of books that I want to read
  • A Minecraft project that will eventually be a bare-bones reference for my fictional universe
  • An overhaul to my eating/exercising to make myself slightly stronger and a bit more pretty
  • Writing on this blog once a week or twice a month

As you can see, there is a little bit of everything everywhere. There are a couple other things on here too, but there is no point in continuing the list. Some of it may seem petty to some of you, but these are some of the things that are important to me for the moment. Can this change? Absolutely. Could I finish some of these and start on new stuff? I mean, that's hopefully what will happen. Hopefully I will complete these projects so I can move onto other projects. That's the whole fun of what I want to do!

Do you have any projects you want to work on, but you've got your own brain acting like a squirrel? Well, know that you've got another human with the same issues. And -hopefully- you find some comfort in that.
