The Religious Questions I Have
So, this might drive some people away. And that's fine. I don't expect people to read these or even begin to understand what goes through my head when I ask these questions.
An ever-going lifetime's story edited short, I've had a lot of negative experiences with my old church and western religions in general. I have yet to meet someone who has had the best answers to these questions. This list changes on a regular basis, especially if and when I read religious texts. A lot of these questions are solely squared at the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam), but I will probably have more questions when I continue/begin studies into other religions with more than a passing interest.
- If God wants everyone to worship Him, why would He only give His perfect knowledge and wisdom to a select group of people? I find it odd that He only reveals this stuff to a small group of people.
- Can God truly be so upset with human's mortal sins so much that He is willing to send them to an eternal Hell? It seems that earthly father's have a hard time doing that (even the worst of them), so why would a deity better than a human do that with the conceivably petty things humans do compared to the works of God?
- (On a similar note) If God was upset by the sins of man, why would He classify some sins more egregious or "evil" compared to others? I have a feeling this is more a human thing, but I'm not sure.
- Considering we have no idea about the whole of the universe, what makes everyone think we are the most important thing in the universe to God? I find this hard to believe simply because I don't believe we are the only creatures in the universe.
- Why would God choose one group of people over another? I get the idea of "you worship me, I favor you" but I also believe the whole "everything happens to everyone" part of the Christian Bible.
- Why would God care about (what I perceive to be) frivolous human things? I get some of the bigger stuff that harms another human being, but stuff like what kind of food you eat or what kind of person you love doesn't seem to bother anyone unless they are looking for something to be bothered by.
I have a lot of more qualms and nit-picky annoyances about western religions, but I need to stop here. If I'm not careful, I would start rambling into stuff I believe about God that (quite frankly) I don't want this post to be about. Another post, maybe. If it's asked for. Otherwise, I'm leaving it here for the night.
These are some of the bigger ones I have, mostly because I find them really outlandish for someone who is supposed to be better than humans and be the ideal deity that people in general want to worship and praise.
Moral of this post: Question what you believe spiritually. Sure, it may cause some crisis situations and may exile you from the group of people you belonged to, but your questions can be answered to push you in the right direction and/or solidify what you believe. Feel free to read about other religions and other religious texts to gain some new insights and potentially some more nuanced thoughts about what you believe. Don't take anything you hear or read at face value. A lot of what is given to religious believers is often passed through a filter that may have its own bias and stigma built into it.
