First Draft Prologue to "Renegade"
This is a rough prologue/connecting thread between two sets of stories. One is the novel I am currently working on. The other -well, I'll let you figure it out.

The chrysalis sits in a mixture of rubble and water. It is not the best entrance an immortal entity has made. The temple around them is slowly rebuilding itself with the help of some builders. The head of the temple stares at the chrysalis and ponders what could be inside. The barely visible etchings might reveal a clue. Some footsteps signal the entrance of someone behind him. "Ambassador Azarius, what shall we do with the crystal?"
The ambassador looks behind him to the head of the temple this chrysalis crashed through. He tried not to stare for too long. "With your help, Shepherd Thanatos, I would like to take this chrysalis to the Creator's Temple and into the hot springs."
"The Creator's Temple?" repeats Thanatos in a concerned tone. "Did you ask for her permission?"
"No, but-"
"But then she will-"
"-she told me to take it there." Azarius finishes. Thanatos purses his lips in embarrassment. "All is well, Shepherd Thanatos. You are just as shrouded in darkness as I am concerning this strange event. At least you enjoy the mystery more than I."
Thanatos focuses his attention to the white foggy chrysalis. He watches the swirling inner structure. For a moment, he thinks he can see the golden glint of something, or a purple strand of something, but the fog serves its purpose. He sees the etchings and reads them aloud without thinking: "A bath of water, lily, and incense be prepared; A call of divinity received; The fog will be lifted and its purpose revealed inside it."
"Which is why we are taking it to the Creator's Temple." Azarius responds with a smirk. "It all makes sense now." He turns to face Thanatos. "Let's take care of this right away."
