Memetic Hazard
The warning flashed on our holographic communicators and every other holographic screen in our house. We were waiting for it with anxious darting eyes and shallow breaths. As soon as the tones sounded and we saw it, we all ran to find what we needed for the warning.
BLINDFOLD WARNING
This is a blindfold warning! Please locate and wear your blindfolds until otherwise notified by a figure of authority. All those without blindfolds must barricade themselves in a dark room until otherwise notified. This is not a drill or test. Please locate and wear your blindfolds after reading this message!
We all found our blindfolds and put them on. It didn't take long before we heard a knock on the door and a familiar voice called out to us. "Family 126. Please link your bodies together so I can guide you to a safe location. Make sure all of your Asif are in their miniature terrariums and in your possession."
"They are. We're coming." Dad called back. He shouted for all of us to link our arms together and walk out of our home like little crabs. I can hear all of our Asif terrariums make their fake clinging sound in our special holding bags as we walked with our authority figure. The figure lead us slowly and carefully around whatever was going on outside.
It didn't take long before we heard the screams. The screams and giggles of whoever was crazy enough to take their blindfold off. Something was going on. But then Sister tripped behind me. I heard her fall and make her sound that she always made when she fell. I tried to reach to help her back up, but then I heard her giggle. I freaked out. It wasn't her normal giggle, like when she got her favorite sweets. It was the same one I heard earlier. I tightened my link to Mother and left Sister with only my tears to remind her of me. "She is lost now, darling. Keep moving. We will deal with this later." Mother solidified my resolve to keep moving.
We got into the bunker and took off our blindfolds when the authority told us to. Dad took the authority aside to ask all the questions. Mother and I took our space and time to grieve Sister's demise. We knew that it was part of our probability.
