Could There Be Another?
"So, what are you doing here, God? I thought you were busy with those silly naked humans you were playing with?"
"Well, that's why I'm here." God rubs his whiskers with his paw, trying to keep himself relaxed in this physical body. "The humans already messed up. And they messed up big time."
"What? Why? They were doing just fine!" The feline before him shakes her head.
"That's what I thought too. But then they decided that they wanted to be their own little authorities. They blamed it on Bob. Poor guy. I had to pretend to take his legs away and had to make sure snakes were a thing before I kicked them out of the garden."
"Wait, does that mean we are all getting kicked out too?"
"Oh, no, no. You and the other animals didn't do anything. You guys still have access to this place. I just need to put it in a special pocket of the planet that only you guys can get to until I can get my Son to take care of them. He wants them to try and correct themselves first, but I'm a bit skeptical that they can do that."
"Oh, that's a shame. Then why did you come here as a cat? I mean, sure, my mate and I have been busy, and we made sure the other cats you created were busy too. And everything has been going great with us and all the other animals!"
"That's exactly why I came to you. I want you to be my chosen ones for a time."
"Us? Really?"
"Yes. At least until my Son wants to try and get the humans back on board. And even then, you might still be a better option."
"That would be amazing! Thanks God! My mate and I will spread the news! But how will the humans take it?"
"Well, as my chosen ones, resist the urge to take their fawning and worship of you seriously. After all, they broke the rules. They don't know what they are doing anymore."
"So act detached and aloof to their desire for approval. Got it. Can that just be our thing for the rest of this place's existence?"
"Absolutely."
