Who Truly Has The Privilege?

I don't think anyone truly has any privilege in this world. By definition, it is "a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group" (thank you, Oxford Dictionary). With that in mind, no one has it. No one. And we all made sure of that.

Every time someone gives me an example of someone or some group that has a privilege, I often find that it comes with a cost. That cost is often scrutiny and judgement, which kind of negates the privilege. You have a certain color of skin? Well, now you are inferior to every other group with different skin color for no reason other than you skin. Do you have a certain amount of money? Well then, F you for not being so generous with those who have nothing. Do you have a certain kind of job? Well, I guess that must be nice when you have a job and are not unemployed or working a different job that has a different level of stress.

I often find this conversation of privilege to be absolutely boring. Because it boils down to one thing: envy. Wanting something you do not have. And you wonder why the Catholic church gave it the designation as a deadly sin...

Look, this is what I will say on the matter: Do what you want. If you feel like your life sucks, find a way to make it better... or don't. If you think life is great, keeping finding a way to make it stick or make it better... or don't. You have the final choice in the matter. There is no privilege that truly stands in the way of what you want. And if you think it is, then maybe you need to look at yourself and really see if you truly want that thing. Because the things we often see as a privilege always come at a cost. And that cost is often unseen until you reach that part of the path you want to be on. Assuming you keep to that path and don't think much about what the cost of living a certain life or with certain people will cost.

Every privilege has a price. Every path has a progression that will lead to making changes and sacrificing ourselves in the process. Even if you choose a path where you make no progress or change, there is still a cost. So choose your path well, and be prepared to change and sacrifice to make it work as you want to.
